Drip, Drip, Drip – how to get your freezer ready for a power outage

Today started out like any other day that has nothing on the calendar. (Note: nothing on the calendar DOES NOT mean that there is nothing to do, it just means I don't have to leave the house unless I choose to, the kids actually think that any blank day is water park day for them...ummm.  NOPE) So, after fighting off the kids I pondered which one of the myriad things on my list I would tackle … [Read more...]

Have you ever bottled fruit, veggies, or meat?  Do you have bottles sitting on your shelves that you processed more than 24 months ago?  Don't know?  Go check, I'll wait. If you have any bottled foods from 2010 or before then you are in trouble...At least that's what a local news station said in a recently run story. But I don’t have time or money.

"I'm too busy, I don't have enough time." "I don't have any extra money after the bills are paid." These are the two excuses that I hear the most when it comes to why people don't start preparing their families.  Pardon me for being a bit harsh by saying that they are excuses, I could have said 'reasons' but then you might think that they are valid. Oh what do you do when the power’s out…?

I'm not much of a singer, but I can handle a children's song every now and again.  Just be grateful that it's your imagination you are hearing instead of my voice. You might remember this song from your childhood, it goes something like this: You can listen to the tune HERE if you aren't familiar with it. "Oh what do you do in the summer time, when all the world is green. Do you fish in a … [Read more...]

Why would I ever need to evacuate?

Hmmm, I dunno... According the Federal Railroad Administration Office of Safety Analysis, about every 4 hours a train in the US is involved in an accident.  In the last three years, this means that there were over 6,300 incidents during that time, many of those resulted in derailment. Of those 6,300 accidents, I counted the officially reported causes, and stopped counting at 250 different … [Read more...]
